The stages on bike
Fun trails that get lost in the dense beech forests, steep climbs and rocky descents on the Apennine dirt roads are what makes the Via degli Dei trail amazing to ride!
The most suitable vehicle is a mountain bike, front or full suspended to tackle the most technical sections of the trail. The trail retraces the footpath as much as possible, avoiding sections that do not guarantee its rideability.
The Via degli Dei is also rideable by gravel, following the specific trail. For the most part, the route remains faithful to the original one, varying on asphalt or light gravel the less rideable sections of the route.

It passes through beech forests, steep climbs and exciting descents on dirt roads. The trail is suitable for front or full suspension mountain bikes, with generous tires to tackle the more challenging sections.
The mtb version of the Path of the Gods has three main stages for less experienced riders, two for more trained riders:
Intermediate level
Bologna - Madonna dei Fornelli
Madonna dei Fornelli - San Piero a Sieve
San Piero a Sieve - Florence
Expert level
Bologna - Futa Pass
Futa Pass - Florence
Preparation and and technical details
The Via degli Dei bike ride is a challenging route that requires excellent training and equally adequate preparation for the mileage and total elevation gain. There will be no shortage of areas where you will need to get off the bike and push it by hand for short stretches.
Regarding tires, for both mtb and gravel, we recommend using tubeless versions, checking compatibility with your rims so as to minimize the chance of puncture.
Gravel sections vary from gravel road, to clean and rideable singletrack, but there is no shortage of more technical sections. For this reason we recommend that you choose tires no less than 2 inches wide for mtb bikes, and no less than 45 mm for gravel bikes.
The route passes through the many small towns of the Apennine mountains, and there are no mechanics or bike stores in case you need technical assistance, if you exclude Bologna, San Piero a Sieve and, of course, Florence. Bring everything you need for repairs.
